McMaster University

Welcome! We aim to keep you up-to-date on what's been happening with this Open Source project. If you are already an OSCAR user, you'll find useful resources here. Check out the "EMR Resource" folder to your left.

The First National OSCAR User Group Meeting will be held in Winnipeg at the Family Medicine Forum on October 13, 2007.

At this first national OSCAR user group meeting, current users will have the opportunity to meet other users and OSCAR's development team.  They will learn about new features and how to use OSCAR to their best advantage. The group will work by consensus to make decisions about future development. People interested in becoming OSCAR users are welcome to attend and see how the OSCAR community works together.

OSHCA Presentations can be found here

May 2007, Dr David Chan, Jay Gallagher and Jel Coward presenting MyOSCAR and the evolution of OSCAR's community and support structure at the Open-Source Health Care Alliance international conference in Kuala Lumpur

A team from OSCARcanada have been asked to present MyOSCAR (OSCAR's Personally Controlled Health Record) and a session on how the OSCAR support community has grown over the last few years, at the OSHCA

conference in Malaysia.  This is exciting new ground for OSCAR.  Open-source software is becoming more and more important on a global scale.  The benefits to developing countries are huge, many of these countries will be represented at the conference.

  • Our Forum is DOWN!! We apologize for any inconvenience! We are planning on integrating the forum within this Plone installation in the near future. So stay tune!

  • COUNT DOWN for the free web-based DRUGREF. You have 3 days left to install it on your own OSCAR server. If you don't know how - it's time to find a trusted vendor.

  • The 2nd BC OSCAR Users Group meeting in Vancouver was a resounding success. One of the participants said: "OSCAR rocks!". The meeting was followed by an open invitation dinner gathering of some 50 interested individuals (mostly physicians). It definitely converted a few!!! We should definitely see a critical mass of OSCAR users in BC which translates to a sustainable future for OSCAR there. Congratulations!

December 1, 2005 OSCAR has been certified by OntarioMD under the Physician IT Program!

  • We are the only Open Source Clinical Management System product out of the list of 19 certified products from 15 vendors. The list of certified products can be found here.
  • Certification means that the product has passed a set of requirements to ensure that the product can support defined standards for clinical and practice management software. Ontario physicians helped define these standards. More information on the standards and the certification process is available on the OntarioMD website

  • DRUGREF is definitely going OFFLINE by Dec 15, 2005!!! Instead of hosting a new drugref server on ServerBeach.com we will be posting the software (python and PostgreSQL scripts) and instruction for installation here shortly. We think most current OSCAR installations should be able to run drugref on their OSCAR servers without cutting into the performance. You can always find an old PC and install drufref on it :-) You may need help from your support vendor to do this properly. This version of drugref will automatically load the drug data tables from Health Canada each time you restart the program. DRUGREF version 2 will include a number of enhanced features. We have chosen NOT to include drugref on our CVS site because we don't want to appear to have forked the drugref code. We continue to work closely with the drugref team to make drugref a truly collaborative project.
  • oscarFax is now available in SourceForge CVS Repository
  • This release has been used in our clinics for the last two years. The CAISI team is working on improving it for faxing prescriptions. Please communicate via our Forum in the Developers Corner topic if you are interested in using it or joining CAISI to improve it (i.e. don't email us :-)

  • DRUGREF is moving (second announcement)!!!!! We have already moved most of our OSCAR related servers to Server Beach for much better performance and bandwidth. For several years we have tried to run more and more services using our fixed IP ADSL service and it's proving to be very expensive and the upload performance has become unacceptably slow. DRUGREF is the last server to be moved because so many folks have become so dependent on this web-service. We have decided to host it as a standalone web-service at Server Beach. The cost will have to be shared by all the users. We think with 12 OSCAR installations it will cost $200 a year per installation but if we have 24 installations then it's $100 a year. We need to hear from you ASAP about this. Send me your comment at info@oscarmcmaster.org The planned termination of the current service is December 15, 2005.

October 20, 2005

  • CAISI's programming team is making major contribution to the homeless in Toronto. More on this..

September 30, 2005

  • Drugref is being moved to a web-host location for bigger bandwidth and reliability. Version 2 will have important enhancements which will make automatic drug table update easier. It will be available on SourgeForge. We would like your comment regarding the possibility of paying a small yearly subscription fee for the use of the drugref web-service. Send your comment to info@oscarmcmaster.org

August 20, 2005

  • OSCAR McMaster v2.1 has gone through Validation Testing with the OntarioMD
  • Official result will be announced mid-November, 2005.
